How Long???

Unread postby Jay » Sun Feb 03, 2013 7:12 am

Went out scouting a few weeks after gun season ended here in Kentucky. After a few hours and finding some awesome sign I believe I found the bed of the buck I had taken during gun season. Once you think you have found a bed like this, how long do you wait before checking to see if another buck has moved in????

If its a great spot to bed, I would expect it to be being used at the same time frame as when you shot your buck again next year. Bucks don't usually wait for a buck to die, OR MOVE, they are using the beds at same time, just not on the same days...

Many times more than one buck may use the bed in the first place. When conditions favored bedding there a different buck may well have bedded down. If it was a seasonal bed, used to be near a food source or a doe family, for example, you may have to wait for the conditions to repeat themselves before a buck beds there.

This really isn't a black and white scenario, there are numerous possibilities. Remember that individual bucks often have a number of beds in any given area as well.
