Farmland Scouting 1/17 to 1/20
Hey guys,
I recently spent 26 hours in the woods over a 4 day period. Landowner only allows people on the land during hunting season; I had a small window and I had to take advantage of my time. All of these beds are from Farmland habitat. Let me just say that these deer are different and bed in some unusual spots. Here are some scouting pics to show you what I have found.
His bed is in the background. Multiple places where he has moved around to adjust himself with the prevailing wind. This is just a little grownup spot way out in a cornfield.....A very common theme with my photos.
View from his bed.
A step back view of his bed from a distance
A waist high rub I found in the canal leading to his bedding area.

Buck #2's bed. That is actually where he lays.

Here is a waist high rub he made just out of sight from his bed. My hand in the picture is right at my waist line. Pics don't look that high but it's just the angle of the camera.
The one in his bed is the same height.

Buck number 3's bed. Here is a pic of his bed from the strategic place he uses.
A pic of his bed
A pic of another bed just 15 yards away. I actually jumped a smaller buck from this spot as well.

Here is a pic of that bed from a distance.
A bit farther back for perspective.

A pic of his rub. This is where I watched him J-hook into his bed. You can tell he repeatedly used this trail and routinely rubbed this tree on the way in to his bed.

Buck number 4. I only think this deer is a 3 year old based on his rub height; I took interest in him because he will only get bigger. Plus, he bedded a little differently than the other bucks and I thought it might be interesting to note.
crappy pic but here was where he was bedding

Unlike the other bucks who bedded on fringe cover, this buck bedded on an edge created by an overgrown field. I'm guessing this is because he is a lesser buck and competes for the average bedding spots.

A pic of his bed. This buck bedded on an island created by the surrounding crop fields. Excellent cover and very hard to ambush and hunt.
