Did some in season scouting today.

Unread postby Dewey » Mon Dec 31, 2012 10:16 am

Went out this afternoon to just walk around and explore with the fresh snow. Nothing is better than a fresh blanket of snow with nothing but critter tracks.

Only human tracks are the ones I left with my snowshoes. 8-)

Found my first lone deer with pretty big tracks. Was it a buck?

Image

Guess I will never know since I lost the track in a main deer run to some standing corn.

Image

Been finding more coyote tracks than deer lately. Maybe I better start hunting them.

Looks like Wiley decided to sit here for awhile and take a break and left a nice little bed.

Looks like bunny hunting is another option.

Another great sunset on the marsh.

Didn't hunt real hard today but did carry my bow and stand on my back just in case something looked too good to pass up. Today was just one of those cold sunny days that I enjoy getting out and doing some exploring. I learned quite a bit about how the deer are moving around. Sometimes you have to sacrifice a day of hunting to gain some valuable intelligence.

Good luck to all of you guys still hunting.

You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Love your scouting and up to date hunting reports Dewey. Was wondering whats with that heavy deer trail to corn. Can you back track that to a bedding area and hunt close or are is that not realistic?

I probably should have sat right there tonight because 5 different trails came out of the marsh and joined together where I took the pic. They are bedding in the cattails where there are no trees so it would have to be a ground sit if I wanted to go in further. Haven't found any bedding anywhere near the mainland and other areas I checked out in the past week the deer are still bedding way out in cattails sometimes as far as 3/4 of a mile or more.
