Successful scouting/hunting trip
Went hunting tonight but it turned into a scouting trip as I never ended up taking my stand off my back. This is a new area that ive never been in and the picture above is a view of the typical terrain in there. Found many small rubs but finally found this chest height rub where there were marks on the trees behind the rub even.
Wasnt finding much fresh sign until I finally made it down by the creek and found fresh tracks and pooo.
Then I found a couple beds. Not sure if they were buck beds as they did not look to be used very recently and there were no rubs in the beds.
Then suddenly to my surprise I caught a glimpse of something! raised up the binoculators and this is what I saw!
Bagged me a chicken samwich!
On a serious note, do you think all buck beds will have rubs in them? I have found some beds where you just know its a buck bed because of all the rubs in the area and rubs in the bed and so forth but a couple of the beds I found tonight were pretty big just no rubs.

I have some bedding areas that are "primary" and don't have rubs in the beds, or around them... Some do, some don't... I think it has to do with population and competition for the bedding spot. .

So then you just determine its a primary buck bed by seeing big fresh tracks in it? If so, these beds i found tonight were probably not primary beds since they looked like they hadn't been used in a while with no big tracks in it or nearby.
Will for sure be going back out there when theres snow on the ground to look for tracks and better beds.

You may want to find the nearest Mcdonalds and look for the primary buck bed in that area, according to the sign you found

Dang, I wish I had a Micky D's near where I hunt. The closest one in Wis is 45 minutes away. In Minn. it's at least an hour or more and in Mich about the same. There's nothing like a big mac, fries and a strawberry shake after a long day in the woods!

There is a little more to it than that...
A primary bedding area is one that is used year round and is preffered by the bucks over other bedding areas. I have thoght spots were primary and have been wrong. Its not always black and white... Lots of beds, that show lots of wear, and "usuALLY" rubs of differing sizes.
I can think of two primary bedding areas I have that don't have much for rubs. One, the deer density is really low, and the beds don't get used by multiple bucks much, the other is in scrub brush within cattails and there are hiway trails going to and coming out of the beds.
Both of these bedding areas have rublines though, that start a hundred yards or so from the bedding area.
