Last year's "target buck" is back!

Unread postby blackwolf » Fri Oct 19, 2012 2:57 pm

I was after a particular "big woods" heavy duty buck last year. Thought I had him figured out, was hunting along a wide ravine edge he followed between higher hilly oaks and lower cutovers with oak and pine mixed in. Spotted him just after daylight at the top of the ravine one morning early Nov, then a guy came walking thru at 11 am. Figuring he was spooked, I walked up to the high ridge top where the man had just cruised thru. To my surprise up jumped the big boy and he stared at me a good 5 seconds broadside at 40 yards before disappearing. That was it for last year but it told me where he beds, and how I was hunting him wrong.
Walked to a great ridge funnel today right where I spotted him early AM last year, about 100 yards from approx bedding. Funnel was full of good sized rubs following trail just below top of hill. Now, my stand is in the right spot, just need the right winds, anything N or westerly, but no southerly. Can't wait for the 26th, start of vacation to Nov 15! I am usually hunting rut spots with no particular buck in mind, so this is getting me stoked; it's my turn this year, he won last year.

Hope you get him.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.
