Finding Bed's/day 2

Unread postby kenn1320 » Mon Jul 30, 2012 5:05 am

Let me set the stage for this next set of videos. I sound pretty discouraged in some of them, but that is how I felt when I made them. I’m not giving up, but I am moving on looking elsewhere. When I find this much hunter sign and hardly any buck sign, I think my time spent hunting would be better elsewhere. Its hot/miserable weather and that likely plays into my mood and the things I say in these videos. I have a family and have to get out when I can, which isn’t necessarily when I want. I had fun out there, even though it may not sound like it. I know the next scouting trip I take could turn out to be “the spot”. I hope the video is informative, or at least gives you some insight as to what I’m doing/looking for when scouting. Keep in mind I can’t kill a 100” buck, but I can get on deer anywhere I go. For those of you that exceed my skill level, I welcome your input on what I’m doing wrong. I’m posting these videos to share what I know, but am just as willing to learn what I’m not doing right. As with any scouting footage and a cheap camera, it gets kinda hard to watch with all the motion. I find its best to set the footage on full screen and sit back a few feet from your computer. Also by compressing the footage, you lose quality and it makes the blurring even worse. I’ve made a lot of assumptions in my comments, please tell me your thoughts whether you agree or not. There are hunters of all skill levels on this site, some of you will be bored, but I hope some find it interesting. I have left the footage in the order I recorded it.

First bed I found out in the thick stuff.

First rub found from last year. I say it was likely made after dark, but hindsight it could have been made before season or anytime for that matter. :D
[bbvideo=425,350]http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v492/kenn1320/For%20Sale/?action=view&current=HDV_0027_Converted.mp4[/bbvideo]
Are you patterning the deer, or are they patterning you?
[bbvideo=425,350]http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v492/kenn1320/For%20Sale/?action=view&current=HDV_0028_Converted.mp4[/bbvideo]
Moving to 1/3 elevation on way back to the car. I was curious if 35ft of elevation change would be enough to have deer traveling/bedding using thermals and wind tunnels.
[bbvideo=425,350]http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v492/kenn1320/For%20Sale/?action=view&current=HDV_0029_Converted.mp4[/bbvideo]
More hunter sign at this elevation.

[bbvideo=425,350]http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v492/kenn1320/For%20Sale/?action=view&current=HDV_0033_Converted.mp4[/bbvideo]
Spoke to soon, there were a coule rubs on that finger ridge.
[bbvideo=425,350]http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v492/kenn1320/For%20Sale/?action=view&current=HDV_0034_Converted.mp4[/bbvideo]
Saddle/path of least resistance.
[bbvideo=425,350]http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v492/kenn1320/For%20Sale/?action=view&current=HDV_0035_Converted.mp4[/bbvideo]
Ridge that leads to the saddle. Gave my observation of a rub and lack of obvious sign. I have no doubt I could kill a buck here, but odds are it wouldnt be a big one.
[bbvideo=425,350]http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v492/kenn1320/For%20Sale/?action=view&current=HDV_0036_Converted.mp4[/bbvideo]

Thanks for the update. I was dying to set a camera on a well used bed. Had one all picked out but wasn't well used. Been too hot to do much looking this summer.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.
