Went on my first real public land scouting trip the past Sunday. I didn't have a lot of time but the time that I had was very productive. Dan had given me some spots that should have had beds, although I didn't have time to check those spots I was able to find a bed of a buck that I would think to be pretty descent from the sign. There was one rub in the bed and there were some good sized trees that were shredded within 20 yards of the bed.
On my way back I was planning my entry and trying to find the tree. I hear something crashing and here comes 3 large bucks. I just stood still and tried to get my camera out, by the time I got my camera out and powered up it was too late. They crossed about 10 yards in front of me, it was AWESOME! All three bucks were 3 yrs+ imo judging how big there racks were and they all had nice big bodies. So hopefully thats a sign that I'm in the right spot. I actually walked past this area got a little ways away and turned back to investigate because I had a hunch that there was a bed in that area. First one I've ever found on public.
here's the rub that was in the bed
this one was on his exit on the way to crop field about 15 yards from his bed

Three mature bucks! I would say you are you are zoned in on a good area. Good luck on that spot. Hope you figured out enough to get on one of those bucks this fall!

Funny, just last Sunday I was trying to plan the best entrance/exit route to a nice funnel I found when I stumbled across a buck bed on a big flat rock, right out in wide open in the middle of a swamp. Right on the edge of the bed was the nicest shed that I've ever found, the right side of a big 10 point. (That's not saying much, I'm a lousy shed hunter ).
