My son and I went scouting today and came across this board nailed to a stump. It was fairly far off the road and somebody used a chainsaw to cut the tree down. This is state land, so they broke the law. Its on a side hill and gives you an elevation of about 10ft above the marsh. Im guessing they climb up on it and put a folding chair of some sort on it. It was very solid, so likely was done last year. The view of the marsh is very limited, even if the leaves were down. What have you found that you cant believe somebody would use for hunting?

A ladder stand that was only the top section. Couldnt have been more than 4 ft up. Wouldnt be bad if they wouldve put it in a tree with cover, like a pine, but it was wide open hardwoods.
I think they followed my old firetacks, one reason I dont use them anymore.

A guy had a full size recliner anchored about 12 foot up in a public marsh near Antigo. He hunted it for years and took some nice bucks. He went to the promised land years ago. not sure if the chair is still up.

A hunter used blaze orange spray paint to spray nearly every darn tree with big arrows so he could find his stand on opening morning of deer season. Nothing like giving your spot away!! So much for being stealthy eh!!!

Re: Dumbest stand/thing you ever found on public land?
I found an interesting stand once, the stand itself wasn't anything special, just your standard boards nails to 3 trees. However what I found on the ground was kind of amusing. The hunter almost had a little campground setup. There was a small firepit next to the stand, a small charcoal grill, a couple of lawn chairs, an old cooler. Then there was a small trail cut about 30 yards away to a little poop chair and a ziplock bag of TP hanging in the tree. I wondered if he brings in a tent and sleeping bad if he gets tired, it almost looked like he had a spot to set one up.

Not really dumb but kinda weird. Opening morning gun season last year. Brought my little sister out. We were running late, had no definite plan. So just headed to a public area picked out a tree. Sun came up and we're sitting at the base of this tree. And i look down and there lies a brand new can of Copenhagen snoose. It looked brand new like it was laid there minutes before we got to the tree.

Found a ground blind on a remote ridge in Chequamegon National Forest one spring. Floor was full of girly magazines!

car seat bolted/strapped to a pallet about 30 ft up in a tree. This may have been on the private right on the border of public, not sure of the boundary.
