I use ImageJ, a free download from the National Institute of Health, to mess with images: http://rsbweb.nih.gov/ij/

It is java script so will work on Mac or Pc.

Another option is Fiji which is ImageJ with all the packages in one install: http://fiji.sc/wiki/index.php/Fiji

For hosting/posting of images to web forums, I'm happy with photobucket.com.

Open up a mapping program and navigate to what you want to view

hit ctrl+alt+print screen all at the same time

Open up a program like MS Paint or GIMP(free photoshop)

hit ctrl+v or right click and paste image

Put whatever marks you want on it, save the image as a .jpg or .gif

Go to an account like photobucket and upload the image

Make a post and in the tools area click on the little mountains picture

Paste in the link between the two img tags it creates

There is a program called ARCGIS. It's kind of complex to get downloaded but once you get it, you have topo's, aireals, with symbols, marking tools, pop up boxes to make notes, etc. Just about everything you need to record stuff. You can also index the areas you want and with just a click travel right to it. A good program for hunting / scouting. The map that loads is the whole US. All marking tools, text boxes, and symbols are included with the program.

It's all free.

I had to downoad some service paks before downloading the program. That was the hard part...but once I got everything I needed, it downloaded and works great. I have hunting/ scouting info logged and marked for many spots in western KY, eastern TN, and southern/ northern IL.

I've tried other mapping programs out there, nothing compares to it.

Check it out...

I mark up both topo's and aerials in photo-bucket editing and there ready to post. You could also do it on your computer using "paint" and then host them on the beast.

1) Go to a website like mapper.acme.com and get an image that you would like to mark up

2) Press "Control" and "Prt Sc"(top right hand of keyboard) at the same time to copy the image

3) Open up your Paint Program

4) Press "Control" and "V" at the same time once the Paint program opens up and it will place that aerial/topo image into the program

5) Mark up your map using the tools

6) Save the image

7) Upload that image to photobucket.com

8) Once uploaded to photobucket.com, then you can copy and paste the direct link to that picture into the "Image" icon on the Beast

Southern Man, using that mapping program, are you able to do the overlays? Meaning are you able to phase in topos over the satellite images in order to have that topo overlay? That really helps make my scouting more efficient when I can get those elevation lines lined up with edgelines and cover.

No. Or if you can, I haven't figured out how to do it yet  I'd love to figure that out. You can however toggle back & forth between topo and aireal at the same elevation. So I can more or less seen what I need to see.

What I like about the program is the record keeping ability. Opening the program, I can go to any area I hunt / interested in, with just a click of the mouse.
