TOPO HELP

Unread postby Frank » Tue May 04, 2010 6:13 pm

I need some help on how to determine buck routes and beds on topo. I can usually find them once i am standing in the area but want to be able to look at a map and pick out a couple good spots. I understand that bucks are going to bed out on the islands, points, and use the higher ground of a swamp to get to there food source. When i look at maps i use (topo USA 8, Bing, and my hunting atlas) I have trouble pin pointing those areas because you dont always see every change in elevation. What else are you looking for when you look at Topo map in the swamps? Points,Pinches? Any tips?

On flatter ground I dont know that a topo map will help,
I use ACME mapper 2.0.
You can put the maps crosshairs on a spot on an aerial and switch to topo, and visa versa.
Its a good feature.

Topo's still work on flater ground.. But not as well, its the slight elevation changes in the marsh your looking for.

Do you have the marsh bucks video yet? Dan explains in detail how to read a topo of a marsh and then goes to the spot and shows you exactly what to look for!

I have seen the video, just watched that part over again, just trying to pick up any other information anyone might have that works for them. I like that ACME mapper 2.0 it saved me from having 5 different maps in front of me.

Thanks
