Oops! Have you ever done this?

Unread postby Czabs » Tue Feb 14, 2012 5:38 am

I was scouting a piece of public land and I was walking down the trail that borders the private land. I didn't get any sleep the night before and I wast texting on my phone not looking where I was walking. I veered off somehow onto the private trail...I ended up seeing a blob in the corner of my eye. I looked up and there was a cuddeback snapping a picture of me :? . I looked up and there was a house about 200 yards away! I was like "WHAT!?". . I turned around right away and walked back onto the public trail. I was going to go up to the landowner and let him know what happened, but I decided against it. I hope he isn't too pissed  :?

I though you were gonna say you walked into a tree or something?? Lol!! I think if you did go talk to landowner he would think that's pretty commendable of you.

I have had it happen to me on public land.
I would let the land owner know you made a mistake. It's better to deal with the situation now before he gives your picture to the police.
You could go back with a sign that says "sorry, it won't happen again" and hold it in front of the camera.

I know I would certantly appreciate it if someone knew I got them on camera to come tell me that way if a tree stand or the camera is missing I wouldn't automatically assume it was they guy I had gotten on camera earlier? I understand the not wanting to tell him but I bet he just laughs and thanks you.

Side note some of the ground I hunt the owner is a good friend of mine and I also lease the ground to pasture cattle on I came across one of his cameras and left him a nice shot of my behind. He got a kick out of that as he was deleting pictures of cattle and looking at deer he suddenly gets mooned.

Depends on the type of guy the landowner is. Most would appreciate the gesture if you stopped and talked to them but others would be jerks and say the only reason you are admitting is because you got caught on camera.

I guess if it is a spot you plan on hunting in the future I would take a chance and talk to the landowner. Never know he might even give you permission to hunt his land for being so honest.

It was an honest mistake. I'd call the guy and clear the air.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

I say take the high road, it was an honest mistake. If the guy has a problem with that at least you know you did the right thing.

Exactly..and even if he's upset, what is he going to do? Tell you to stay off of land you didnt mean to be on in the first place?

I dont really see anything bad that can come from it..
