Dewey- great looking spot. How far from a road or access to get there? Water barrier to cross or any tough access? Im starting to break down small chunks of cedars 100-300 acres, but the next place to check is continuous for miles. Did the river/creek edge show the most obvious sign for you? I figure the would be travel corridors and was surprised to hear you were finding beds near it also. Did the trails up the hill come from the creek edge trail OR a creek crossing?
Access is about 3/4 of a mile with no water barriers to cross so not really hard to reach. The river edge which runs north/south did have a faint trail which led to the bed but it didn't seem like a main travel corridor. The trail in the photo came out of the main cedar swamp heading into the hills but not following the water. That trail never showed any large tracks so think it was being used mainly by doe/fawn groups.
Thanks for the reply and detail. That makes sense if the creek trail wasnt a main trail. Ill keep a lookout for these types of beds near water, and then find the route he takes up n out...I wonder if float hunting/scouting creeks/rivers would be helpful sometimes, or if not much could be seen from the water.
Wanted to add where the buck was bedded he could easily escape across the river he was bedded along if danger approached. The river is about 20 yards wide at that location and only about 3 feet deep. Opposite side of river is very thick and he would disappear in a few bounds.
