Public Marsh Scouting Trip 1/29/12

Unread postby addisonlee » Tue Jan 31, 2012 3:30 am

Here's a public land marsh spot I've hunted around but never had the time to actually investigate further into until this weekend. What I found was surprising. Enjoy.

Real or fake? What are your thoughts on this "rub"? What else could've made it? They're all my height (5'8), some chest high and others higher than me. Keep in mind this is in SE WI, where there's no elk, moose, etc.

Old school tree stand about 1.5 miles into the marsh...

They almost look eaten rather then rubbed. I have no experience with them, but porcupines? I know they can do some damage.

Looks to me like a guy marked the trail with a knife.

Never thought of porcupines, nor have I seen one do anything like this. Anything is possible tho.

Dan, I was thinking the same thing, but these rubs are less than 100yds from a heavily used hiking trail. I did however locate a buck bed about 100yds north of these rubs. I'm still not convinced these are "rubs" but if they are...

I didn't attempt to sit in it but sure looks old. Seems like we hunt the same area. Good to know there's another beast in the area. Let me know if you ever want to get together to do some scouting/hunting.
