Scouting for sheds

Unread postby moondoondude » Sat Jan 28, 2012 5:15 pm

I wanted to check out a small urban pocket of woods that I expected wasn't seeing a lot of hunting pressure. I wanted to see if there were any deer occupying the area. I saw a couple rubs and a little sign here and there, but nothing special. There were some huge oak and a lot of acorns on the ground. There was also some good cover. The deer should have been there. I came up to a little draw and stopped to look for a while. About 150 or so yards out, I could see a couple deer in a honeysuckle/briar thicket up against a construction zone. I sat tight and kept watching and then I could make out two big ones. I took a couple pictures but wanted to get a better look. They ended up seeing me so I headed out and walking completely around the construction zone. I ended up creeping up to about 20 or 25 yards. They would catch me a couple times, but they were pretty confused since there only way out was back towards where they initially saw me and they didn't know if whatever they saw was still there. They didn't want to head back towards where they saw me the first time so I took my pictures and walked back out. Wind was blowing about 25 or so, that made for good noise cover and they never were downwind of me. Those bucks just watched the whole thing. I plan to get back out and pick up their antlers in a month or so. Definitely a productive trip.

Great pictures. Those sheds are mobile. ;)
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.
