Today I did some scouting and my focus was on overlooked spots I really haven't paid much attention to in the past. Many are pretty close to access points on public land and everybody walks right past them.
First thing I found was a deer carcass.
Next I checked out a small wooded area that had a old homestead at one time. The foundation is still visible.
I noticed quite a few fresh deer tracks in the snow so I checked it out closer and found quite a few beds from does and fawns.
This one was interesting because it was on a high spot near the foundation away from the rest and had decent tracks in it. I believe this was a buck bed.
Checked out this little island where a mature buck has bedded in the past but other than a few tracks no beds this time.
Another interesting find......
The weird thing about this homemade wooden ladder stand was that I found it in the middle of the cattails with no tree in sight for at least a 1/2 mile! Not sure if somebody tried hauling it and just gave up or what??
Had fun following deer tracks all afternoon and learned alot about how they travel in this area. Today was a great learning experience and I have a few new spots in mind for next season.

Good job on the scouting mission.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

I really get a kick out of finding overlooked buck bedding areas... great job on getting out there for the scout.

Good post Dewey. What's the deal with that ladder? Strange.
