FIrst Scouting Trip - A Success

Unread postby Z7WIBoy » Mon Jan 16, 2012 3:15 pm

Did my first scouting trip Beast Style today and overall I learned a ton and had some success too!!
Scouted the transition lines around several swamps on public chunk:
started off right outside the parking lot - this spot was just 100 yards from parking lot

potentially a buck bed since it was the only bed - no rubs in bed but all around it in a transition spot

lots of does beds and the circle pattern is right on - found these in the pines:

this swamp is in the middle of nowhere this got me jacked up:

buck bed under the only tree and dry ground on the swamp transition line - i need to move the stick

rubs - will post a question on this in another thread

This one really starting putting the pieces together as to why a deer would bed here:
rub in the bed
Image
actual bed - i move the dirt to get to the hair
Image
hair in the bed

view into the bed

nice rub

when i saw this piece little swamp i thought (Beast Style) there is going to be a buck bed in here - he can watch everything from the road and escape route is amazing pines are so thick behind him
bed
Image
rub with view of bed
Image
view of road from bed - hard to see but you can see it from his view
Image
poop

i have never seen this many rubs in my life i got a total of 50 pictures today and roughly 7.3 miles of walking
i just need to pic trees now on the next trip

Cool discoveries.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

I see this a lot... I have some known big buck bedding areas where I have watched a lot of big bucks use and hardly any rubs in the bedding area it self, but 75 to 100 yards away they start up... I have others though, where the trees are hit hard in the bedding area.
