I scouted a small area of cattails this morning that I had been thinking about for a few months. It is protected on all sides by water (hard to access without waders.) The interesting thing is that it is within 250 yards of a parking area (public marsh). Walking in it was not too encouraging, no fresh tracks. There is a small island of trees inside this area of cattails and on one of the lone trees/brushy areas outside of the island I found this bed. It has not been used recently, but when brushing away the snow I did find a few hairs.
BED
Within a few yards of the bed a found a couple of rubs (again not real impressive rubs). I also found evidence of older rubs.

Both of the above pictures are facing my tree I have picked out, which is just under 100 yards away.
While the sign was not overwhelming I will give this area a hunt or two. Last year while scouting late December I saw big tracks coming out of this general area so I think it will be worth a sit or two. Half frozen cattail marshes are irritating to walk on. Every other step I was breaking through.

Good scout jackson, those half frozen marshes can be tricky, I've gone in up to my waste a few times.

I went in over my belly button last spring. My feet never hit ground.
