Weird items or objects you found in the woods ?

Unread postby Swampthing » Wed Dec 28, 2011 5:10 am

About 4 years ago I released on my first bow buck. I went down to find my arrow in the tall grass, next to a clump of brush. I saw a shaft buried in thethe grass and grabbed it. Turned out to be an old aluminum Easton. Whoever shot this arrow had to have been in the same tree as me, and taken a shot almost exactly as I did.

I found some strange weather device they send up in the atmoshere. It came down in the woods on a parachute. It had a place to turn it in if you found it.
A buck will see you three times, and hear you twice, but he's only gonna smell you once.

I found a pistol 2 years ago. It was some foreign looking thing. I forget the name, but it was a .45/.410....It was rusted and I could not open the cylinder to check to see if it was loaded. I was able to pull the hammer back but when I pulled the trigger it would not fire. So I am walking out holding this thing pointed down at the ground. 5 minutes into my walk out of the cattails....BOOM! The dang thing fired about a foot away from my foot. Scared the bejeesus outta me! I was lucky. Brought it home and spent the afternoon disassembling and cleaning it up. I think one of my neighbors heard me telling my wife what happened and that I found it. The next day a detective was at my house looking for this gun I had found. I had to give it to him, which was fine but was furious that someone had called on me. Turns out he tracked down the owner who had reported it lost in the marsh the previous year. Glad the owner got it back. But sure would like to know who called the cops.

A few years back deep in a public swamp I came across a very old rotted backpack with gear spread all over and a bunch of hunting clothes that were pretty much gone from years of harsh weather. Immediately I assumed that I may have found a body but after looking closer there were no bones anywhere to be found. Hopefully somebody just dropped or forgot their backpack! :? Had me pretty freaked out at first.

This next thing I found I actually posted awhile back so some of you may recognize this........

I found an old moose hunting shack in a very remote part of Ontario. Probably not very weird but cool nonetheless.

This was in 2008 when my Dad and I flew into a outpost camp by floatplane 200 miles north of Red Lake near the Manitoba border. One day when we were out fishing we noticed a old shack back in the woods and decided to check it out......

Looks like a moose hunter was using it but had not been there for about 4 years according to his calendars and left all of his gear behind. Apparently he was just a meat hunter because he cut the horns off and left them outside on the ground. I can't imagine the work he did to build this shack because each piece had to be flown in by float plane because the nearest roads are 200 miles away. I bet that guy had quite the adventure up there I know we sure did!! :D

Found some dope growing areas myself... Always majkes me a little nervous.

I remember talking to a guy at the Illinois deer show who was a suspect in a murder case because he found a body on his hunting land and waited till the season was over to turn it in. Now thats hard core!

Dewey, that moose lodge find is cool.
