One of the bucks yesterday had "rut mouth". A deer in the distance blew (maybe was a snort-wheeze) and he took after it like he was shot out of a gun.

Glad you got to see some bucks. Now if you can find them during the day.....

I like the thread topic and would like to throw some Q's out there to Dan and his merry men. I too went out shining last night with my brother, but I have a big Question. Where did all the deer go?? Hit up my normal spots and shined till 10pm. 7 Deer, all 1 1/2's. That's it. Three sets of 2 and a solo. One of the sets was hanging right up near a bunch of cows we happened to accidentally catch (not wanting to shine and distrupt the livestock.) Mama run the does off and getting chased now??

I have been talking with my circles and it sounds like no one has seem anything chasing yet in our area. Just what it sounds like. They just get going now and that is the reason to see nothing?? I know that beast mode is bed and staging areas but are you any of you SE Wisconsin guys change to rut tactics yet?? Just seems odd that scaning so many miles of farmland that the number would be so low. Horribly low. A contributing factor may be that some corn is still up, but most of my areas are harvested. Figured we should see something. I was up in Minocqua over the weekend scouting and happened upon 2 bucks cruising while driving backroads. That's a few hundred miles away and always goes earlier. We still waiting down here?? Thoughts??
It's not a problem, it's a opportunity for a solution.

I'll add another question to go along with Kodiakman's...

I was shining with some friends the other night, and they told me on thursday, they shined the same circuit we did and said they saw probably 40 deer, including a few nice bucks. One saturday night, we saw 3 deer total - two does and one dink buck.. What causes so much difference in movement and sightings from night to night?

Similarly - some nights you can sit in the stand and see 15 deer come by, and the next two days are absolutely dead - any reasoning?

And my friend and his family have seen alot of bucks chasing lately - mostly small bucks, but my buddy had one big one chase some does by him but he couldnt get a shot, and a few of his friends put down some slobs on saturday.. Backwoods text me yesterday and said he saw two slobs running across open fields in the middle of the day..
