How far will you drive to get to a good spot???

Unread postby WashingtonCoWiHunter » Tue Mar 30, 2010 4:08 am

How far will you drive for evening hunt? My normal stomping grounds are 10 minites away, but I'm thinking about scouting a public swamp 45 minites away. Just wondering how far you guys are willing to drive for one sit? 8-)

There are many shooter bucks within ten minutes of where i live, so i figure if i cannot get them, then i have not "graduated" and need to become a better hunter. $.02 8-)

I've driven 60 miles West and North of my house many, many times for morning and evening sits and then come home. Usually during the week before or after work. I really don't have any spots that are good close to my home so I'm used to it!

Most of my hunts are from a base tent camp or cabin 3-5 hours drive from home with hunting within 30 minutes. But a couple spots I hunt from home I drive 30-45 min one way.

I like that PTC! I feel the same way about my area, although I do hunt with a friend who's hunting grounds are about 1 hour from where I live. But then he comes down and hunts with me too... I will not look for a better spot until I feel that I have "graduated" from what local hunting has to offer.

I would say 45 minutes or so. Usually it's 20-30 mins. I have a ton of stuff within 30 minutes that I need to scout before I start to venture out further. ;)

Most of my spots around home are 50 minutes to an hour away. Kind of limits my hunting to friday nights and weekends. Lots of Booners 2 minutes from my house I can't hunt. Kind of sucks.

For those of you that drive over an hour for one sit, are you hunting a specific Boone and Crockett or something??

 AHHHH No! That's where my cabin is and that's where I love to hunt more than anything ;) Up there I'm looking for a buck over 100 inches! That's a good buck up north on the pounded public land. Where my private spots are, 130 inch minimum.

I would drive a 1 hour to 10 hours just to hunt with good people. To me that is just as good as the kill. For me the best put of hunting is going back to camp and Bs n around the camp fire.
