I love Dan's video about fat chick tactics. Got me thinking.
A fat chick spot is a place others think is crazy to hunt. In my state some public land is archery only or archery and muzzleloader only. Gun season here is like a statewide deer drive. The archery only and muzzleloader only areas have empty parking lots during gun season. This reduced pressure combined with increased pressure by neighbor on private ground has helped me fill several tags. Something to think about.
One of my favorite spots is a few hundred yards from a food plot that is on private land. I have regularly shot deer that wait untill dark to move to the food plot with my muzzleloader. The hunter there is noisy and hunts daylight to dark every day if gun season. The smart ones stage a few hundred yards away on public land. I hunt there mid week with good success.
Another spot is a few hundred yards from a subdivision. The deer bed within site of houses and watch the agriculture field on near by public. To approach it you have to walk half a mile past the area and cut back. The only place to sit is a grown up hedge row with no trees big enough for a stand. I killed a nice 8 pt there with my crossbow a few years ago from the ground in a ghillie suit. Watched him the two days prior from an observation stand then moved in for the kill. I hear dogs bark and such from my spot but it doesn't bother the deer.

Re: A different fat chick
Very cool. Nice way to use pressure and overlooked areas.

Re: A different fat chick
Your food plot spot you mention makes me think of a bedding area i found while gun hunting a couple years ago. Big public swamp but the bed was only a couple hundred yards away from a private land food plot. The main beds were in a clump of red dogwood about 10 ft from a deep ditch/creek. In between the food plot and the bed was a grove of red and white oak where I picked out a tree to hunt in someday. Gets me excited thinking about the possibilities.
