Q1: "Where did you shoot your deer/elk/bear/moose?"
A1: "In the heart/lungs"

Q2: "Where did you kill your deer/elk/bear/moose?"
A2: "In the woods"

Q3: "What state did you shoot your deer/elk/bear/moose?"
A3: "The State of Euphoria"

That usually takes care of it.

The interesting thing is this: the people that know better, know better: they don't even bother asking. The people that don't know any better, don't know any better: they keep asking. It's pretty easy to tell what type of person someone is....

Don't share your success pictures with anyone and you can avoid this type of situation entirely! Don't have any success and it becomes that much easier! :D

One guy was like "you better keep that spot quiet or you will have company", he seemed to doubt me when I said I would probably never hunt there again. I didnt explain but that is the truth, unless I happen to see the right sign like I picked up on this year.

I think the "public or private" question is OK.

But even naming a public parcel is not good. There was even a thread about this with interesting poll results...

I see it online all the time. Especially for fishing.

Here’s a thought... “If you want to know where the deer or fish are, do what I did and go find them yourself!!”

Lol. When I get asked where I shot my buck I say right behind the shoulder.

I go by a don’t ask and don’t tell.

However, people from the south live for a good story. We have a piece of public around here famous for giant bucks.. but it’s 40,000 acres of bottomland hardwoods. Everyone loves to say their buck came from that piece... A lot of them do. But regardless, I say no comment when I’m asked

I danced around question. Never answered.

On lease I hunt they all know not to ask. Boots I have worn out. Time spent, sweating running into briars, snakes, yellowjackets and who knows what else. New guy that does ask. I tell them that I spend way to much time to give away what I have earned over years by doing my home work. I will help them get in some of my old spots that they will see deer. That I hunted when I first started. I tell them if they find a good spot don't share it with anybody unless you want them hunting there.

I tell them that I still put in more time down here walking and seeing what has changed since last hunting season ended every year. I have been hunting there since 1995 and woods change year to year. There are always changes in cover.

Public I hunt will always say I'm new here or haven't been here all year. Ask first in indirectly, so they will be on defense, never ask me.
I'm reason they call it hunting and not shooting.

I give one of two answers

1.) A gentleman never tells
2.) I give them an area nowhere near where I'm at, where I have no interest in hunting or fishing

The funniest one is I will use hashtags for state forest areas or WMA's I won't hunt in my Instagram pics and people think thats where I'm actually hunting or fishing

A guy pulled up on me when I was loading up a nice buck on public. It wasn’t a monster by any means, but a buck I was proud to take. He fished me hard for details about where I got it. I tried to remain as tight lipped as possible but he obviously knew the area. Then he was looking at the deer and said, yeah I probably wouldn’t have shot that one. Kind of got under my skin especially when he was trying to nail me down on my spot.

Most people I talk to know I hunt in every direction from my house so when I do have success I’m usually a town or two or three off from what I tell people. But most people I talk too have private stuff to hunt on and my favorite line from them is that’s a nice buck for public land as if big bucks don’t cross property lines haha. I have only heard that line once though so hopefully I get better at putting public land monsters down to hear it some more.
