MI PUBLIC REPORT

Unread postby Ranger12 » Fri Sep 25, 2020 7:23 am

Hey fellow beasts!! October 1st is coming soon!! Can’t wait.. I thought I would start this so us mi public boys and girls can possibly work together and help each other out. What are we running into in mi on public by you? Dry? Wet? Acorn crop? Lots of people? no people? scrapes? Rubs? deer movement? rut activity? and so on...
let’s see what everybody has up against them and maybe as a beast family we can outsmart the elusive whitetail.
Good luck out there and most of all, stay safe!

Lots of good sign where I've been. Haven't been out near any real potential spots as I don't want to scent it up.

Im a little concerned about the lack of acorns im seeing though.

Word on the street is it’s been pretty busy with dudes on the public. Couldn’t say for sure as I haven’t been out yet.

Hunted public sunup to 10am, scouted 1pm to 2pm, and hunted 3pm to dark. Ran into 3 guys.

Acorns in key areas have been zero pretty much. Guys out everywhere this morning. Just about every parking area had vehicles. Not surprising been that way since the 90s when I first came to this area. I decided not to hunt this morning and just drive and check pressure. Will be out this evening

Pretty much every lot had multiple cars yesterday. I expect it. I was still able to find a spot and get on deer. Could have smoked a doe but didn't feel like dealing with it. I will be hunting my new property next weekend, can't wait.

Tons of reds here. They will produce in late season.

Looks like I got something to chase when I get back from Nebraska. Just finally showed up in a area I know pretty well. Hopefully get a crack at him next week.

My buddy and I also drove around the public this morning to check out the pressure. No lie, we counted 100+ vehicles. Did see lots of deer on their feet though, including several bucks...nothing bigger than a basket rack though.

Drove around some public @ 9am near my house to see what the pressure was like. Quite a few cars but some of the parking lots were empty. Lota guys coming out of the woods. All 5 of the hunters I saw were sporting Xbows. Not that that matters but man everybody and their cousin has one now. I couldn't do it.

I'm eyeing a couple swamps that have bedding right off the road on a parcel that doesn't recieve as much pressure as the others. A couple heavy trails coming out to cross the road. Tried to pick out a few potential trees out from my truck. Gonna have to dip in there for a swim when the time is right.

First year for me bowhunting public (along with two private land spots I have permission). First year w/mobile set up as well. Should be fun!

Is all this public land pressure being seen in Zone 3 Southern Michigan?
A never ending quest for knowledge and absorption of nature through hunting.

Drove around 1 piece on opening day, saw a few cars but nothing like what most guys are saying. Hunted shortly in the morning, and then after 6 at night. Saw 3 different bucks all small. I was walking a totally new piece I have never hunted before, better deer numbers then other areas I have hunted in west Michigan.
