wind direction
ill be out hunting in northern Maryland this Friday for the first day of archery. the winds are forecasted to be straight out of the east up until about 2:30pm Friday. i only plan on hunting the evening on Friday when the wind will then be out of the northwest. i have a pretty good set up for easterly winds but im not sure if i should hunt there or not? when the deer go to bed down for the day Friday morning they will have an east wind but would they likely get up at the change and move to a different leeward hill (by the time id get there) even this early in the season with minimal pressure? i was thinking of still setting up as a east wind but getting in between the bedding and the nw leeward hill that he would likely bed on Saturday morning. does that make sense or should i set up on the nw bedding first sit? sorry if that sounds confusing but being a newer beast i dont remember having such a drastic wind direction change in the middle of the day or at least i never thought anything of it.

Re: wind direction
It doesnt make sense to me to hunt the east wind spot on a nw wind. If the wind will be out of the nw when you hunt, hunt the spot that is right for a nw wind. If the wind has already been coming out of the nw for some time by the time you get set up, I dont think hunting in between that evening is ideal. They will make the move when the wind shifts, not wait till the next day. If you could set up on the nw wind bedding ahead of the shift, that would be ideal, then you could get an opportunity when they shifted bedding areas. Same thing for setting up in between, but I feel like that is a case where I would want to be at the destination to ensure I got an opportunity. Unless you knew the exact route they would use to move from one area to the other, they could make the switch out of range.

No problem. I didnt want to sound rude by saying it, but I felt like you already knew the answer to your question. I know what you mean, though. I often tend to overthink situations and talk myself out of following my gut. Would love to hear how it goes! Good luck!

I didn’t get kill anything but I did have 2 little ones a spike and 4 point come right out on the trail I was set up on in the middle of a laurel thicket where there’s some bedding they were both in velvet still so I though that was pretty awesome and I finally pulled 2 chips I had in that area and had some really nice buck in there that most people think don’t exist in the area where I’m hunting at so all in all it was a success for me but anyhow thanks for the input and checking in
