Opening day last year was really warm here in WI, but that evening my wife shot a nice 10 that came out a bedding area I scouted that spring. It was within the last 20 minutes but he still moved. The bed was roughly 60 yards from the tree.

Absolutely! But I generally don’t start hunting mornings until later in October.

I'll be out for sure, I don't think I could sit home on opening morning. I have to be out I've shot a decent amount of deer the first day.

Wouldn’t miss it. Son has his first year of 3rd grade tackle football this year. I’ll prolly be volunteering on the chain gang in camo and knee boots that Saturday morning. Strait to the stand after.

I am at the age where all my friends are getting married and they don't seem to respect the fact opening day should be off limits.....so for the 3rd year in a row I will be in a suit on a chair instead of in camo up a tree.....sad day for me....

I agree with Dewey, if no small game hunter, dove hunter, etc. has buggered them, opening day will find many bucks still on their summer feeding pattern which makes that a great time to try to ambush them. If you can sit afar off 2-3 days and glass them and he is still coming into feed before nightfall - it can be about as sure a thing as you will ever get to slip in that evening and kill him as he enters his feeding area.

How about going to a Notre dame football game in south bend?

Yep. I’m out for opening day. Sister got a 4 pack of tickets for the family to go to the game. It’s better than getting them in November right? Need a pick me up after that blow

I’ll be out the Tuesday and Thursday after. Maybe Sunday night as well. Just not Saturday

Two reasons why I hunt opening day. First is that I am usually excited to get back out in the woods after a long layoff. Second, I shot my biggest buck last year on opening day in what I normally would have considered less than ideal conditions (I think it was 85 degrees and pretty uncomfortable last year for WI opener).
