3 new hunterz

Unread postby daveynewman » Sat Nov 18, 2017 10:26 am

So this openingg weekend I made a commitment to 3 hunters who never hunted before. This will be there 1st year with a weapon in the woods going after deer. I'm excited because it reminds me of my 1st time in the woods years ago. I hope to try and teach them.a few things and hopefully they enjoy it as much as we do but only downside is it's going to rain all weekend. Got to try to keep hopes high for them, one is a 17 year old male one is 28 year old male and one is a 27 year old female. It's cool the age of them experiencing it at the same time together.

That's nice of you to do that. It's a lot easier to start hunting when you have somebody to teach you. Have a good time and I hope you get lucky.

So I learned alot guiding the new hunters. 1st thing was I didn't want to force them to do anything they didn't want to or to sit in the bad conditions. The 1st day the morning was good I actually put them in my better shots and behold I still shoot a doe opnning morning. They all seen deer which was cool but no shots. When they got cold from the snow I didn't force them to stay any longer even if it was before the best times right before dark. I just didnt want ro makenot seem iin any eay ot wasnt fun so i was going off of how they felt. Deff learned alot from it.

How did you get involved? Some sort of mentorship program? Family friends?

One of my buddies I new for years wanted to get involved but never did. He always said he would but never made the leap. So this year I said I'm going to free my hunting opening weekend for you so he got his license and decided to give it a try. Now the other one is a young kid very shy and quiet that my cousin wanted to get involved in to it but the kid had nothing no hunting stuff or a fire arm to use. So me and my cousin said take the course and we will take care of the rest. So he takes his course and I cleared my opening weekend for him also. My goal was to try and get them on deer but the main thing was to show them the joys of hunting that its not about the harvest. It's about the enjoyment of the hunt. They both did good for thier 1st times ever hunting. Im going to try to get them all together again before the season ends
