Driving Time

Unread postby Twenty Up » Sat Feb 18, 2017 11:00 am

Curious to see how long/far some of us drive to hunt different tracts of public. To keep it simple let's keep it to one-way and without traffic!

Generally speaking I'll drive 1 hour to 1:45 to several WMA's. I'm really interested in reaching out to other high potential areas but that would mean a 2 1/2 hour drive..

One hour to public that has tons of pressure. 2 hours from my private. I'm taking a scouting trip soon to public about 3 hours I'm getting solid info about.

An hour to 90 min to the areas I hunt, but I'm looking into areas a little further from home hoping to get away from some of the pressure.
Let's go Brandon!

3.75 hours to my grandparents cabin. 200,000 acres of public out the back door.

2.25 hours to my camper and anywhere from a 3 minute boat ride to a 45 minute drive to public land.

Add all that up, and you get more time driving than hunting.

Close to home public is 20-40 minutes. The cabin is about and hour and 10 minutes with county land .375 of a mile away. Every once in awhile I will venture out a little further.

This is my biggest challenge. I live in a suburb north of Detroit and anything with 2 hours is jam packed. Gotta go 3-4 hours which makes scouting tough with a busy schedule and family

Your situation sounds just like mine. I live in a suburb south of Detroit. It's fun hunting the public close, but man it's pressured big time. My private in southern mi is about 10 times better than the public although I'm starting to find pockets that are holding good bucks on the public. My neighbor in the suburb owns private up in the apr area. He's not a hunter and he gave me permission to check out his private 40 acres and there's huge amounts of public nearby also. I'm going up there next month for 3 days to scout and see if the area has what I'm looking for.
