My daughters first hunt

Unread postby whitetailassasin » Sat Sep 17, 2016 2:12 am

Tomorrow begins our Michigan youth season, and marks my daughters first time in the stand with a weapon and license to kill a whitetail deer. I've hardly been able to contain the excitement, and pride I feel as a father and fellow hunter. Hours of practice, stand prep, and talks with my daughter have strengthened our bond, and been some serious fun and good times. As I sit back and remember today when she was born, and when she took her first steps, first words, graduated kindergarten and now as the young teenage 8th grader, I've watched my child blossom and grow, fail and stumble, live and learn, and I know the toughest lessons are yet to come. But I think of how proud I am of her decisions, and the person she's growing into. I know I've tried my best to be a good man and father. I too have failed and succeeded, but I'm so proud of her and couldn't be blessed more. It pains me to realize she's only getting closer to that age when I have to understand she's a woman and will start her own family, and I'll lose that little girl that was my little sidekick everywhere. But the love a father possesses has to be one of the strongest things on this earth. I'm very happy to share with all of you my feelings and our youth season. To all the fathers out there that are taking the time to be active in their children's life's, I don't think we realize how important we are to them, and how much they are teaching us.

Good luck to you and your daughter! My dad and I still talk about the first year he took my out for youth season when I was in 5th grade. Opening morning I had a nice 8 point buck standing broadside about 40 yards out. Needless to say I was shaking so much that I missed him, as well as the 4 other does I had a chance at that weekend.... We laugh about that every time we talk about it. A memory I will always cherish.

Good luck to your daughter. You will enjoy being there and seeing her take her first deer than if you killed it yourself.

Best of luck to you both! I appreciate your perspective. I think it helps all young dads keep the focus on the important things while also seeing there are great rewards along the way.
