How many of you hunt from the ground?
I hunt mostly on public ground in Missouri and Kansas. Last year we hunted first week of November everyday packing our stands in daily and sitting based on wind and pressure from other hunters etc., the last two days I decided to change it up a bit and sat on the ground in a chair that straps to a tree. Didn't kill anything but the encounters I had went well and I don't think my ground perch impacted the hunting, in fact as I sat there both days in a river bottom timber stand I could look around and see that a hunter in a tree sticks out like a sore thumb while a hunter using a well chosen ground spot with some background camo really is hidden pretty well and the deer seem to be more accustomed to seeing hunters in trees than on the ground.
I hunted the rest of the season like this and was happy with my results, always in relatively flat terrain in the timber. I plan to do it more this year when the terrain makes it practical. I bought a lightweight Millenium free standing chair that doesn't require a tree to mount to so I can sit just about anywhere like in a deadfall tree or brushy area etc instead of relying a a tree being in the right spot.
Sure makes for an easier pack in and out and don't have to worry about falling out of a tree. I know there are disadvantages too but you really have a lot of flexibility in this setup.
What have your experiences been doing this if any?

Anywhere from 2-8 sits a year are on the ground for me, basically no trees to hunt out of. Leaving the sticks and stand at home for an evening is sure fun. Each area you hunt is different and you might need a setup that adapts to that area be it up high, hunting low or on the ground. There is no one size fits all that is for sure.

Do it out of necessity. It will make a man out of some and a monkey out of some.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Very rarely. I didn't have one hunt from the ground last year. I can see it coming tho. Crp fields and brush swamps you usually don't have a choice but to hunt from the ground

I have a good amount of spots that are ground hunt only. Some of my most exciting hunts over the years have come from these spots. Learning to adapt to treeless areas can yield some great hunting.

In special situations I do. Just set up a nice ground spot over the weekend.

I hunt from both the ground and stands/saddle every year. the more pressure the more I find myself out in plum thickets and weed fields with no trees to be found. I use a ghillie suit when I do.

Don't own a stand. I'm always on the ground. Love it.

Killed one on a stalk last year, but that's because none of my buddies were hunting that day. Tough to stalk with small acreage parcels, especially when others are hunting it. If I am sitting still, I prefer to be in a stand.

I sold my lonewolf last winter cuz I was broke so I'll probably be hunting from the ground even though I do own a climber, but that bulky thing is heavy and noisy.

Depends. If there isn't a tree I can get in or better shooting from the ground. I do whatever the situation calls for. If it's better suited for a ground setup, that's what I do.
