2 seasons now. I'm not complaining. I passed a lot of nice mature bucks along the way. It is still a BLAST and that is all that matters IMHO. Really want to start capturing some of these bucks on film, still or video. I plan to do more of that in 2014. I love hunting.

I only killed one that I consider mature at 4+ years old so my answer would be not very often.

Killed three over 4 since 2006, I think.
Its hard to be exact on age even with sending the jaw to dnr.

I honestly don't know for sure how often I kill a 4.5 year old buck and older. I have killed quite a few that I had a history with so I would know the age for sure. I have also killed quite a few that I have no history with. I kind of go by antler size to select what I kill. So I can't make an accurate statement on how often I kill a mature. I have not killed an immature 1.5 year old buck for decades I do know that. I can't even tell you off hand how many bucks I have killed that field dressed 200 lbs + and I weigh all of the bucks I kill. If I were to guess it would be somewhere around 15 - 20.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

I'm prob not very good at age, but have a crack at 3.5 year or older every year based on my obervations. My sucess rate is 3 out the last 5 years. But have a crack each year.

I've been hunting the big woods of northern WI since 1991 and a few years in MN. I shot my first 3.5 year old in 2002. Since then I've taken or had a shot at a 3.5+ every year since then (11 of 12 years harvested). But only 2 I know for sure were 4.5+. I'd say most of my 3.5s dress out in the 180-205 lb range. Both of the older ones dressed out around 207-212.
