Just wondering how many members will be hunting public land or private land for the gun season ? Private for me.I may check out the pressure during the week though.

The public land around here has been active. I suspect next weekend there will be trucks blocking the road as they try to park.
Has not been too active though. We were able to head into the woods yesterday and retrieve antlers Dan left hanging in a tree days earlier.

I'm starting to feel the same way about gun season I don't get as pumped as I once did.

I was thinking about not going at all this year with Ma being back at the house and needing a lot of care... But I decided yesterday I will go out on the public a few days, but I don't take gun season as serius as I used too...

Same here....I still gun hunt just for the tradition with the guys but our group is getting smaller every year mostly because of the lack of deer up north.

I feel like a lot of you guys do. I gun hunt but IMO it doesn't compare to bow hunting. I plan to do both private and public.

Re: Wisconsin Gun Season Public or Private?
i will be hunting private. i still enjoy gun hunting because it is one of the only times i get together with all my uncles and cousins to share stories and a few cold ones. none of them bow-hunt so it is more for the comradery. The land i gun-hunt is also pretty prime so i know i have a good chance at a decent buck.

Re: Wisconsin Gun Season Public or Private?
Public for sure. My family has had an active deer camp since the late 40's in Oneida County and I wouldn't want it any other way. Although there are less deer up there than there once was I still fully believe that bucks die up there from old age every year. We have lost a few hunters from camp because of the lack of deer. I have shot a few nice ones off this public too. Doesn't even compare to bowhunting, I agree, but I wouldn't miss it for the world.
