Going in blind

Unread postby daveynewman » Sun Sep 06, 2015 1:23 pm

I'm still not to great with swamps. I drove pass this piece of swamp that does not look like it gets touched to my knowledge. If you were going in blind where would you set up and on what winds.

A better image would help. Maybe break it up into sections and zoom in a bit.

There looks to be a whole mess of bedding on the south end of this property, if you can get there and scout the transition until you find something to setup up on be it tracks or rubs/scrapes. Obviously keep the wind slightly in your favor or work a cross wind.

I would also want to venture out and check out those islands as well, the bucks could be setup to monitor your entrance but sometimes you have a mess up to learn that. I would move in and setup if I found fresh sign, if not I might move in a little further and eventually setup in a place that allows me to cover as much of the island as possible. With island hunting blind you will want to keep the wind in your face as much as possible.

If it's calm at night that open water is going to be pulling in scent to be ready for that. I sometimes setup where I know the wind will be blowing my scent one way and eventually the thermals pull my scent the opposite way, as long as the buck isn't in those directions you have a chance.

Any chance to set up and glass the area on a few evenings?

The pic itself is grainy and zoomed back making it hard to see detail... Choosing a different historical image zoomed a little closer would do wonders... With that said there is one spot that stands out to me...

I circled it in red and marked in blue possible ambush sites. I would expect bucks to bed in the area circled in red. I would expect some bedding there regardless of wind direction, but the best days would likely be on some variation of a West wind in the morning when they bed. You could hunt it on a North or south wind, but a just off wind would likely net the best results...

It don't look like your going to find much for trees, but I would be rather confident there are nice bucks bedding here.
