Browning A-Bolt .280 with a simmons aetec 2.8-10
If I am hunting a thick spot with short shooting or walking I use a rem 30.06 carbine in a pump action with iron sights.

Re: Get Your Gun
My grandfathers had some interesting selections- the favorite rifle of one was a Remington bolt action in .257 Roberts which he handloaded for varmints / predators / deer. My other grandfather had more than one gun, but his favorite was a lever action Marlin .32 special with an octagon barrel... I believe the model was "1893" or close to it, and was probably manufactured within a decade of that date. When I was a boy, I can remember this grandfather telling me "you don't need a damn scope to kill bucks!" And, he killed a lifetime of bucks without one- we still have a couple of his ancient mounted bucks, along with both rifles mentioned above.

Re: Get Your Gun
Mine:
Remmington 7400 30.06 with a Leupold Var-x II 2x7 scope.
Shotgun: Remmington 11-87 12 GA. fully rifled barrel and canteliver mount for a Leupold 1x4 scope
Kids/wife:
Browning BAR Belgium from 1968, .243 with a Burris 2x7 scope. Cut the stock back about 1 3/4" fits pretty good for them. Kids need a good rest to shoot accuratly. With the auto and being a .243 little to no kick. Just a joy to shoot.
I love this little gun...know some people have accuracy problems with the BARs but this gun can shoot 1"- 1 1/2" groups at 100 yards. Good enough for WI. Next year she will recieve a new Leupold scope.

yeah, that sounds like good medicine for the wife and kid, Hodag. No kick really promotes accuracy for them, as you know.
