Public land success

Unread postby TravisB » Tue Dec 09, 2014 12:36 pm

I posted this over on Archerytalk, but thought I'd post it here, too, since a lot of what I've learned here contributed to my success. I got out of a lease I'd been in 11 years after finding this site just so I could hunt public land and try to put what I learned here to use. I shot this buck yesterday after scouting with Google Earth, checking the wind, and finding what I thought would be an ideal spot. It was a 45 minute walk to where I wanted to hunt, and I went in Saturday afternoon and hung my stand and hunted a few hours. I got up Sunday morning and made the walk and got in my stand an hour before daylight. About 30 minutes after daylight, this guy came up behind me right where I was expecting one to come from. Matter of fact, I was already standing facing that way when I saw him. I simply grabbed my bow, waited for him to clear the tree, and took the 15 yard shot. He ran 40 yards, stopped, and fell over in less than 10 seconds. This is a super buck for this area of SW Georgia. Public land with a bow, in the middle of gun season. Can't beat it!

Oh well, don't know why the pics aren't full size, but you get the idea.

Palmettokid, I killed him where we were talking about earlier this year. Right across from where you said you hunted sometimes, if you remember that.

Absolutely, that's awesome!

When did you get him? I was up there Thanksgiving weekend and I may be back up there New years! Awesome to know that bucks like that are just a few miles away, I know they are in there on my side of the lake as well...

Thanks for fixing the pics, headgear. I'd been up since midnight, so my brain was shutting down I think.
