Work extra for more rut time, or stack on public land?
With the extremely warm weather (highs of 72-64 thru Sunday) I'm thinking hunting will be poor. Lots of corn in the fields yet and HOT. The way I see it I have two options. Work some overtime to afford more hunting time during the rut, or start stacking the bedding areas at some of my public spots. I scouted an area yesterday that had lots of old rubs and no new ones. Talking with other hunters in the area the consensus is all the deer are in the corn. Scouting and shining have verified that. What would YOU do? I do have some pieces I have cyber scouted but have never set foot on that I could scout too.

I think you should bank up some time off. I just got confirmed from the boss and the old lady I get the first week of November off!

The weather isn't looking good. I thought about going out tomarrow evening, but the forcast is calling for a high of 66 and strong winds. I'm thinking about staying home and doing some work around the house. We need some cooler weather.

My plan is this: wait for the next front and scout for fresh scrapes and rubs and hunt them once or twice following the front. Then wait til the next front in early November and its game time

If you can work now to bank more time during the rut, that's what I'd do.

I wonder if the next cold front is gonna be a good one? That would be the time to hit the woods. Right? Looking at the GFS weather models for the next few weeks, it appears a strong storm system may arrive into the upper midwest around the first week of November bringing much colder temps after it moves through around the latter part of the first week of November. Other than that, the models are saying these mild temps are gonna stick around until then. I really don't put to much faith into long range weather forecast models because they are constantly changing around the hour. But, so far, thats what the GFS is showing... Gonna keep an eye on this possible storm system at the end of the month though.

You will be bummed if you spend time hunting the 'unproductive' time period and are stuck working when the toads are dropping like flies.
