My son and I were able to get out yesterday and scout out a nice little spot that I plan on accessing by kayak. We found a ton of great sign and marked my entrance point from the swamp. I also got to use a few of my Christmas gift I got this year for a test run. The Bushnell backtrack is a decent little waypoint marker n it seemed to work pretty well for about 50 bucks it gave me a little piece of security to go a little deeper without the worry of getting turned around. It lets you set 3 way points on the way in and will guide you back to the way points on the way out. Also got to try out my new cam out behind the house n picked up a couple nice does fedding of the clover plot. Would have like to get some scouting picks but my cell went dead.
One quick question I have for anyone. If the swamp butts up to a hardwood ridge and there a few small water holes within a couple hundred yards of the swamp edge would the deer prefer to water at these small potholes or just randomly drink from the swamp ?
Scouted a spot.

Re: Scouted a spot.
If there is open swamp water closer to the bed they will drink that.

thanks Dan... i kinda figured the swamp felt like a more secure place for them to drink.
