Trail cameras used by federal conservation wardens ?

Unread postby SofaKing » Mon Dec 09, 2013 6:19 pm

I don't believe id be the first to find a trail camera used by game wardens. But today when I was out in the wildlife refuge I found a reconx trail cam attached to a dead tree just off the main trail. It was mounted using 2 lag bolts through an piece of 1/8" steel and secured to the camera. Has anyone else run into anything like this?

WOW, someone was brave leaving that on public! I just don't know about a warden using lag bolts in the trees?
I would have guessed it is a local.

I've come across this and they had a note attached to it explaining whether or not animals are using the under-bridges on highways effectively to deter highway collisions...

Friend of a friend got busted by cams not checking his traps, put his truck in the ditch the day he missed. CO had a camera on his trail and wrote him a ticket.

I hate traffic cameras and sure don't like trail cameras for law enforcement.

They use all kinds of stuff but is seems like a lazy warden to leave it that obvious unless they had a hidden cam trying to bust thieves.
I know first hand that tremor sensors are used in multiple states at federal refuge boundaries. They also use them around pot grows on public/refuge properties.

I know trail cams are used at remote parking lots where illegal dumping is common. Also used for pot grow ops.

I googled 'tremor sensor' and didn't get a good answer. I have a decent idea though..Is the term used more by gamers?

I was curious when I found it. No lock on it. Opened it and there was an engraved area that had local refuge name followed by NWR. Card had a 5 on it written by marker. Makes me think either that's one of 5 cards or cams.

Well this pretty much confirms it was put there by the refuge staff. Might be monitoring the area for illegal activity.

I was searching the internet last week looking for the regulations on atv travel on state land in Minnesota. I came across a article about an area in Northern Minnesota where the DNR had been receiving complaint calls regarding illegal ATV traffic on some state land. The MN DNR actually placed cameras in the area and used the pictures to prosecute an individual. The DNR stated the hardest part was indentifing the repeat offender from the photos.

It's nice to know that they are using $600 trail cameras. You wouldn't want the government being responsible with your tax dollars. Isn't it enough, that every street corner is under 24/7 surveillance. Now they have to have our woods under constant surveillance.
It's not the knowing that's difficult, but the doing.

I don't like the idea. I have to say though that ileagal atv's are rampant in Price co. WI. Nothing seems to be done about it.

 Good idea but that might also tick off the CO, no reason to put a target on your back but I like the way you think.
