Thanks, Darin. My dad shot his buck in 1999. He killed it on public land near a state park. With the threads about hunting in overlooked areas. I thought this was a good place to put it.
We were hunting a 125 8 point, and tried to switch it up a bit. he went to the area i was hunting and i tried to get closer to his bed,(the 8pnt) . I heard him shoot and figured he filled his freezer, untin he told me he needed help. I told him i would be right there figureing i would be dragging a doe or the 8. And i walked up to this pig. The area he shot this buck, no one would think to hunt.

Very Cool. Would also love to hear more on why it was overlooked as well.

I torture myself to find a diamond in the rough around here.

Nice buck.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

How we found the spot, was actualy hearing from a park ranger that one of the big bucks we were seeing int the park was spotted out side the refuge. we had no idea this buck was even around. We had seen Huge bucks in the park, one was a 180" 12. so we assumed it was him, but we had also found where a 125" 8 was hangin out. we were scouting the area the last week of early season bow, and the 8 gave me a a 25 yrd shot thru cattail. i didnt get a shot at him. so we tried to figure out how to kill the 8. It was a cattail swamp with a big ridge that is near a refuge line, and is only a hundred yrds from two roads. No trees for a stand, so we had to get set up for a ground shot. I had seen this buck the day before he killed it and figured it was bedding in the same area as the 8. I told him i was gunna hunt he edge of the ceder swamp about a half mile away across one of the roads. He told me fine, and was gunna set up of the creek crossing. It is a tough spot to hunt, and if we dint try somthing we would never had thought to do, that buck wuda lived. The buck just happend to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. It all comes down to knowing the area, and what areas see little to no pressure.

And the biggest reason it would be over looked, is if you drive by it. You would think, ducks, not bucks.
