this was one of my more instantiated hunts of the year!! i knew it would be a bugger to get out there. i headed into the marsh about 12. i slowly gathered my thoughts and headed in . at first you couldn't see the island, the cattails were almost 10 feet high. i got on a beat down deer path and started in the direction of my gps.......it took me about 3 hours to get to the island. the wind would blow in burst and that's when i would move. i couldn't believe the trails that i was on leading up to the island. as i got to the island, i noticed the edges were beat down with a lot of scat! i snuk into the island step by step, only on the wind burst. i came to a over hanging tree and noticed that there was a FRESH scrap under it. it was real fresh. the dirt was still wet!!! i snuk in close to the bedding area and set up in the tree i pick out this winter. everything was perfect. the first doe came in (the one i shot) at 3:45pm. really early!she milled around for about two hours before i got a crack at her...eventually she came in and gave me a quartering away 20 yard shot and i let the rage fly. the blood was spraying out like a high pressured hose!!!! i heard a loud crack when the arrow hit her. she took off through the cattails, i watched the cattails thrash around until she piled up about 100 yards away .the arrow hit the off set shoulder, went through the shoulder blade and stuck out a foot. 8-) i waited till closing in case a buck would still happened to come out....as i packed up my stuff, i heard something coming and looked over, there stood four doe. they walked past like nothing happened. i packed up headed over to where i hit her and saw the blood. i didn't really have to trail her. i found her piled up about 100 yards away. this is were life sucks..lol well i have 3-4 hundred yards to drag this thing and no help. the first half of the drag was horrible. there was water so i had to wait to gut it until i got on dry land. i called my buddy to come help....he got there we gutted it and then i got smart and hooked up the rope to the back of my safety harnesses and away i went and the coyotes were closing in and howling  seemed like every time they howled it was closer and closer. there was nothing stopping me, with the guts out it was like a feather!!!! it only took us about an hour witch would of took me about 2-3 hours to drag by my self....thank you Travis  this is my first year really hunting the marshes, all in all it was an awesome experience and i have waaaay more respect for all whitetail marsh hunters.. i come to conclusion when i hunt there again, if i shoot another deer its going to be wroth it!! a slob buck or nothing  i might go back during rut and for sure during late season.
