M.E.L. (Minimum Equipment List) for Early Public Stand Hunt

Unread postby stikman » Mon Aug 13, 2012 6:34 pm

What's your M.E.L. for Early public marsh hunting...what you carry and have on your person when you leave your vehicle during the first two weeks of early archery season?

I've got:
-safety harness and linesman's belt
-LW Alpha II and bungee cords
-Sticks
-Bow and quiver
-arrows
-Release
-Thermocell
-Bino's
-wind checker
-compass and wrist watch
-small water bottle
-Hat with bug netting
-light weight camo gloves
-gutting Knife and gloves
-small flashlight or headlamp
-sweatshirt or uninsulated rain shell (packed for cooling evening temps or when rain in forecast)
-powered down cell phone (in case of emergency)
-license
-truck key

 about a month to go...

If we aren't supposed to eat animals why are they made of meat?

We have pretty close to the same list except:
No linesmans belt
No Thermocell- I will just spray down with bug spray before I go.
No bino's
No compass- Not hunting where I have to worry opening week.
Only bring a water bottle if its hot out/ most likely not.
My wind checker will be a milkweed pod.

In addition to your list, I will bring:
a 25 foot 1/8 bow pull up cord
a camera arm
a small digital video camera.

I love it! I still catch myself reading stuff and thinking (scent) in the back of mind!
I have got to get myself out of that habit! Im not a scent blocker junkie or anything, but have always taken
lots of precautions such as not using smelly bug spray :)

My list is pretty much the same as Dans without the camera and arm, I have to focus on killing and not filming... im no where good enough to film yet
oh .. (and no bug spray for me ...hehehe)

I take about the same though I also take a set of pruning shears, and a saw, a camera arm, and the camcorder.

I'm hoping a lot of others will chime in here. It's nice to travel light, and warm weather in early season allows for this. Bare minimums and a large chunk of land nearly all to yourself.
