Re: Why do you hunt public land?
i dont think that it means that for everyone zap..but for me it does..hunting someone elses land for me means hunting on land that someone else paid for and maintains and i have to abide by their rules...i would rather do things my way on public.

Re: Why do you hunt public land?
Like other's have noted there is a certain freedom to the public. The on equal ground statement is a big part of it. Suprisingly, it's really not that hard to find areas completely unpressured. It just usuallly involves thinking smart and some major work.
The only thing is you might have to adjust your standards a little, I've passed on 130 class deer on public that were really young, but a mature 130 class deer gets whacked, where as on private I wouldn't of even thought about it.
So I think you have to be a little more realistic, but even so, talk about feeling like the ultimate predator. It really forces you to elevate your game.
I know this will sound crazy but I have no interest in hunting private again.

If I didn't hunt public I wouldn't be hunting near as much.

With no money its hard to get a nice piece of private land these days. Public land is a Love/Hate relationship with me throughout the season.

For the freedom feeling, and for money...
More then that, when you have your own land and only that you could be prisoner of your habits and so miss a lot of learning.
I mean both are great and you can learn a lot from both because a lot of different thinks and way to hunt. (i dont know if it is clear!? )

After yesterday I would like to change my mind. I hate public land.
No matter where I go running into hunters this year.

I have hunted a lot of private ground that has ZERO maintenance. The public grounds I hunt are far more maintained and serviced by our tax dollars and license fees than some of the private I am on. There is no shame in asking permission it's nice to hunt and know that you aren't going to have someone else walking in under you at prime time.

Re: Why do you hunt public land?
I do hunt both private and public land and like to hunt both. To me some of the public land looks more interesting to hunt and if you find a
piece of public land that looks interesting to hunt you can do it. I've seen some quality animals on publicl land over the years.

Re: Why do you hunt public land?
I have a example of why to not over look public just returned from a 15 day hunt in a prime area had private land and it sucked, but we had public as a back up and it turned out to be the best hunts of our lives no kills but awesome.

Re: Why do you hunt public land?
I hunt almost exclusively on public. often times giving up the opportunity to hunt private in order to hunt public. Most private opportunities I have had other folks hunting it as well. Seems like these spots are gettting more pressure then some of the far away public places I am seeking out. One thing I would like to do some day is to purchase a small private piece, maybe 100 to 150 acres that backs up to good public ground. Long ways from this now. Finances, the desire to have freedom to roam based on wind, food, etc and my knowledge of public keep me coming back.

Re: Why do you hunt public land?
The only time I hunt on private that others have permission for is early season and late season...
