NC public land question

Unread postby sticknstringarchery » Wed Nov 02, 2011 4:14 am

Does anyone know if you have to buy a permit to hunt NCWRC public land?

Can you scout it on Sundays?

I have 2 public land areas I would like to hunt but, don't want to get another hunting ticket due to ignorance.

Go to the game dept website. You'll find it there.

Another ticket??

Yep. Last season as many on here know, was my first season. I grew up fishing in another county. In NC the season is broken up into riegons. I read the dates wrong for our county on the website and had been rifle hunting the weekend before it opened. It was blackpowder season here and I had heard several shots so I didn't think anything of it. Well, my brother was in the middle of an afternoon hunt the following Friday I had been in the woods on my property and the GW showed up while he was on stand with his .300 Win. Mag. I had just got home from work and I mean just stepped 5 feet into the door when my phone rang. I got a call from him saying the GW was escorting him back to the house. I asked what for and he informed me that we were still in muzzleloader season. I wasn't in the woods but, when he asked me if I had been hunting any. I of course told him the truth and I be danged if he didn't take our guns and charge us with taking deer out of season. Although we had not actually shot anything. I now have a misdeminor that cost me $1500.00. I got my gun back though. We cooperated fully and they could have been way harder on us like taking every stand we had, ATV's, cars and who knows what else. Since then we have become not really friends but, know several of the GW's that are in our area and they are great guys. Just doing there job and really tought us a lesson. I guess I need to just call one of them about the laws. They are just really busy this time of year and thought I would see if anyone knew right off hand on here.

Talked to the GW a couple hours ago. Some areas are permit only and by draw. Others are by open to anyone but, you have to buy a public land permit. The one I wanted to hunt is a draw and has already been drawn. I won't get to hunt that one till archery season next year. The other one is also a nice piece. I will probably hint it also. I have a topo and satelite map of it now and will be scouting it in a couple weeks. Rut will be in then and maybe I can connect on something there aswell as my personal land.
