PA buck down, now on to Ohio

Unread postby xpauliber » Sun Oct 30, 2011 6:10 am

I went out this morning to the area that I shot my buck in 2010. I stay out of this area until the rut is starting to heat up. We had snow laying and still coming down. The snow made it so hard to hear anything. I rattled right at dawn and got busted by a deer that seemed to just appear out of nowhere. I didn't get to see if it was a buck or doe, but I assume it was a buck. At 8:30, I looked off to my left and this buck just appeared and had his nose to the ground sniffing all through the funnel I was watching. He was at 15 yards but I couldn't get a shot. He turned and headed into the brush and was walking away from me. I made a doe bleat and he stopped and looked back for a couple seconds, then turned to continue walking away, so I snort-wheezed at him and he snapped his head around and turned and started coming back my way. About 40 yards out, he turned broadside and I picked a spot and bleated to stop him. I ended up hitting him a little far back, but I caught the middle of the liver and he went 50 yards before piling up. The pressure was on, because I'm leaving tomorrow morning for a week of hunting in Ohio and this was one of my last hunts in PA. Check in next week!

Nice buck.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.
