Buck video from this morning Oct. 27

Unread postby lynchpin » Fri Oct 28, 2011 2:15 pm

Just wanted to share this video from this mornings hunt. I was hunting state land (NE IA)and was able to pull this buck off private land by grunting at him. (no one hunts this private).. you can't see this in the video but, to the left of the screen there is a finger like field with overgrown field grass on private land and it ends just at the public land fence. I'm near the point of this finger on public land (30 yards off fence line) so I can still see the finger and call in bucks seeking does. It has worked very well for us when they jump the fence... this guy didn't today.

Just wanted to get your thoughts on the age of the buck and genetics. The rack is very wide with good main-beam length.... but the tines are very small. Thoughts? is the buck 3.5 or 4.5? Poor genetics? could the buck have gotten sick/ injured in July... which would focus growth on healing instead of antlers? Although, the buck appeared injury free at it came in and trotted off. Just a unique looking buck...thought I would share.

I would say 3.5.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.
