Dad scores on nice Western Wisconsin buck

Unread postby BigHills BuckHunter » Fri Oct 28, 2011 7:35 am

My dad and I went out together last night hunting about 250 yards apart. He was on a ridgetop I was down low. We were both hunting 1/2 acre foodplots. At about 6pm this nice 8 pointer which we had on camera came to check a scrape at about 18 yards from my dad. He hit him in double lungs and just skimmed heart. Amazingly he went 150 yards before piling up! It was such a great experience for my dad my brother and I finding that deer. My dad killed a 140 inch 10 pointer from that exact same stand and working the same scrape last year on October 10th. ITs his hotspot I guess.

I grunted in a really nice 10 pointer also from trail camera pics but he stopped at 40 yards then threw his antlers up into some branches and turned around, grunting did nothing for me to get him back. 5 minutes later a respectable buck came up from our pond headin right to me but he winded me. It seems like there is alot of action in the last 20 minutes of light right now. Which is when I saw everything.

Nice buck. It's great to be able to hunt with your dad. Do it as much as possible.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.
