My God this sucks!!!
Ok so I know it has been a while since I have posted on here. I have been busy with school and trying to arrow deer. My season so far has been tag soup. Openeing weekend was crap then it started to liven up in the woods. Sit number 6: 10 deer and a miss. 2 doe came in around 6:30am, couldn't see my pins. A fawn and yearling doe came in around 8:00am. I drew on the doe and decided not to do it. She was too young. 30 min later I had a crazy looking racked 5 point come in and I missed. Long story on that one. Long story short I drew way to soon and couldn't let down. I feel I missed from fatigue. I just had time to climb down retrieve my arrow, get back up and calm down from beating my self senseless mentally when 2 fawn and momma walks in. I didn't take momma doe and now I wish I would have. At least I would have the first bow kill monkey off my back.
I have had several other encounters but, no shots, too far or this one is a good one, I was hunting my back yard and had a doe at 40yd and closing when my brother was done with his hunt and decided he would come around the house to see how mine was going. Who does that?????? lol
So here I am a week before rut no deer down and am hearing bucks around me grunting while I am on stand but none coming around. I see deer all the time around my house but, when I get in the woods they don't show up to join me the past 3 weeks. I am hunting the wind, my stands are set 12-20yd off of highly traveled trails, I have pics, I bathe just before heading out, I wash my clothes in scent free detergent with baking soda, I sit still, I watch carefully and stay in until 10:00- 10:30 in the mornings. When I hunt evenings I try to be in by 3:30-4 and sit till I can't see my pins.
I am going to change it up this Friday though. I am finally going after my big guy. I will be hunting a ledge on the side of a hill that his bed is on. I heard grunts coming from that area around 2:00pm today. I plan on making my way there around 11:00am and setting up and staying till 30 min after dark.
Anyways, is anyone else haveing a season anything like mine??

That IS a typical hard hunting season. Your season can change for the better in a split second. KEEP hunting hard and know, you are trying to make the right moves each hunt, and that in turn is upping your odds of killing a deer every single hunt. YOUR time to kill is approaching quickly buddy. I predict a deer on the ground for you within 10 days.

Well, I guess I was expecting myself to have put one down already. This is my second season and first all bow. I didn't take one till gun season last year which was middle of November. I haven't been busted on stand so far and I have about 18-20 sits in now so I am considering it a succesful season so far but, I still get bumbed from time to time.

Stick, one year on the public land I hunt I bet I hunted 35 times. I saw less than 15 deer all year. I remember going 10+ hunts sometimes before I even saw one deer. I killed two bucks and a doe of those 15 I saw. Even though I hardly saw any deer, I made it count when I did. Keep being persistent. You are doing VERY well for your second year of hunting, and bowhunting inparticular.

Man I hope you are right. I'm changing it up by going after Guss. He's the 8 point I posted earlier this year in velvet. I have been saving this spot for the right conditions and Friday seems to be right. 51 for a high just the right wind if the weather channel is right, over cast with 50% chance of rain and I fiinally got a climber a few weeks ago. I'm packing a lunch/dinner and heading in around 11. If I don't see him maybe I will at least get a glimps of our new resident bear family. No one has ever seen bear in this area and we have a whole family of them on camera. That would be worth a long sit for me right there. This will be the first time I have ever focussed a hunt on one single deer.

The normal success rate for archery deer, ANY deer.
Is about 30%.
1 of three shoot NADA.

It usually does the night before a hunt. I get restless and can't wait to get in the stand again.

Hang in there. 90% hunting 10% getting.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Re: My God this sucks!!!
Right now my season SUCKS! I've been 1 time since opening day (missed a doe at 35 yards, shot right under her). In 2010 I went 5 times the first 2 weeks, and had over 70 sits all year!
I've been busy with school, studying (again) working 40 hours a week, and dealing with a full-time girlfriend. But, I'm trying to be patient.
I got some cameras out and been looking at some maps. I'm for SURE going this Saturday morning and all weekend next week. It's been tough with all the good weather we have been having here lately too. My time is coming, just not right now.

I sure haven't. I have 30acres that I now own. My house is on the front of it and I hunt it the best I can. I have 5 perminent stands and 10 other sets set up for climbers. I have one perminent lock on that I did hunt 5 straight sits at the begining of the season and 2 other times but, havent been back to it in 4 weeks. That is the one I saw 10 in one sit and more on other occasions. I had sightings 2 other times from that stand and was busted getting out of it 2 of those 7 times. If the wind is right, I will be hunting it this coming Saturday morning. I keep making more stand sets here and there as I find signs. I will hunt them as the season goes on. Now that I have a climber I am trying not to hunt the same spot 2 times in a row now.
I have used corn piles a few times this year but, I am trying to stay away from hunting them. Just using them to monitor the areas. I only have 2 cams right now. Had 4 but 2 quit on me so the corn being eaten is kind of a gauge for me to tell how often i have deer through an area. Some spots they have eaten 50lb in a week. Others 20lb may lay for 2 weeks.
I have 2 food plots that are getting no activity as of yet. Soy beans are turning yellow, accorns are almost gone persimins are starting to fall but, they get ate up as soon as they hit the ground (that is if they are high enough the deer don't eat them before they hit the ground), so I don't understand why they are not killing my plots. I guess everything is still too green and they have plenty of other folliage to eat.
I have physically seen and have pic of a lot of doe movement at night. This puzzles me.
Last season I hadn't seen anything while on stand until about this time. I saw the first one a week before Halloween. At least I have been able to see them this season already. Maybe I am just not staying in long enough or getting in early enough on the afternoons.
