October 3rd buck

Unread postby mike_mc » Thu Oct 13, 2011 4:23 pm

October 3rd 2010 I attempted a run and gun where a marsh meets oaks. I went a little to far a had a 135ish 10 point with stickers 60 yards away. I tried setting up on the trail he used a few days later but he didn't show.

October 3rd 2011 I thought would be my last best chance to hunt that spot, I called in sick. Around 6pm I could see antlers 200 yards in the marsh. I think he was standing in his bed. Eventually he started my way, taking a few steps at a time then look around. The closer he got, the bigger I realized he was. I had very little cover so I drew my bow when he was 60 yards and shot him at 15 yards. He is the buck I saw a year ago.

Dandy buck for sure.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

I had noticed the acorns weren't dropping anymore, and the hot weather predicted. Sorry I wasn't more clear.

Totally fine...just proves as hunters we always need to be on top of our game and making and acting on observations such as that. Definite thumbs up to you man congrats.
