New Property-TOPO Help needed

Unread postby DMiller6868 » Thu Oct 13, 2011 7:53 am

Folks,

Got permission to hunt some new ground.

I've attached a topo and aerial map. I'm looking for the best spots to setup on a mature buck.

I'm not too familiar with this ground, but based on these features was hoping you would be so kind to provide some input on places to start.

Thx,

Dave

Do you have everything or can you outline your boundaries?

Here is a map marked with potential bedding areas... To tell you where I would likely hunt I would need to know when your hunting... Rut? Now? Late season?
Rut cruising phase I would likely be set mornings / late mornings up along the top of a steep ridge that has multiple bedding areas both ways. Outside the rut, I would creep as close as possible to the bedding areas and try to catch them in the evenings mainly.

Folks,

Truly appreciate the help on the topo maps.

I'm starting to understand what you mean when you say deer bed on the "points"

i hunt more flat farm county and this is a bit of a change for me.

I will be hunting it this weekend as well as the next few weeks. So I'll get some good pre-rut action in.

I do have permission to hunt just about everything in the picture. But it's quite overwhelming to say the least. I'll give some of those spots a try and keep ya'll posted.
