On paper it seems as if there is plenty of season to harvest a buck. But ,hunting time should never be wasted. I'm curious how much info, intel, sightings, previous scouting missions, previous hunts, hot sign, trailcam pics, rumors, hunches, or good faith do you need to decide your gonna hunt a particular spot. At what point do you say o.k. Now let's go kill this beast.
For me I do a ton of late winter/Spring scouting . I have to travel for my hunts,so my shining, and trailcam pics help. Many times I.ll arrive for a weekend hunt with nothing more than intel from my spring scouting and go off that. There's nothing worse than trying to put together a succesful hunt if you ain'nt got faith in your spot.
So then I make that tough decision of whether or not to hunt or keep scouting .

I personally like to see some type of fresh sign, weather it be shining, trail cam pictures. That's not always the case as I would not get to hunt very often, so I will at times go off a huntch and scout my way into a hunting area with the intentions of finding hot sign to hunt.

Pretty much all of my hunts are based on spring scouting or in season scouting and the wind. A lot of the time I see fresh tracks or large rubs on the way in and that is all the confirmation I need, it would be nice to be able to shine my areas but that just isn't possible in most bigwoods areas. The times I don't find the fresh sign I might end up hunting anyway, I have switched things up before but most hunts I just don't have the extra time to move to a new area so I hunt and try and learn as much as a can about that particular spot.

although i havent done the spring scouting yet, i go by google earth and the wind, and when i am on the way in if i see fresh sign so much the better. shining does not produce here, there is more swamp than there is cropfields.

Well me personally it depends on the type of hunt. Hunting a specific animal, I need see him via spotlight or trail cam pics before I want to burn that bed. Most places I just go hunt near bedding on pre-determined sets from my spring scouting not always knowing for certain the caliber of buck that will be there. Some times I don't see anything, sometimes it's a dink...but the anticipation always makes it an on the edge of my seat adventure.
