I see the weather channel is saying high winds starting around noon today, & dieing down around 1:00 AM Friday morning. I'm wondering, would this be one of those classic weather conditions that get a buck up on his feet late tonight, & in turn, bring him back to his bed late tomorrow morning ? Seems like it would be a good time to hunt his bed tomorrow morning.
I wish I could test it out, but I have to work. So I guess I'm just asking, to try to learn....
Thoughts ???

Re: wind tonight.... bucks get back to bed late ?
I've always believed that in a high wind, deer would be out of their bed sooner than later as with big winds, their sense of smell and hearing are limited since smells will swirl from all around and be hard to distinguish coming from one direction or another and the wind will distort or even eliminate hearing from distances further than their immediate surroundings. In my opinion, the deer would be more likely to get up and enter more open areas this evening, so as to assume they'll be out in the fields to feed earlier than normal. Suppose if they can't use smell or hearing as a precurser to danger closing in on their bedding, they would get out in the open where they can lean on their vision as a sense of security. I think this would mean a later arrival to their bedding area in the morning, too, which goes hand in hand with your thought of being in that transition stand from food to bed tomorrow morning. I'll be swaying in a tree tonight

Dreaming IMO your correct. I have watched bucks in their beds when it was windy. They dont like to move. They are safe where they are and have been all day so why would they move. If they move they are making themselves more vulnerable. They bed where they do because it is a safe spot. So I can see them moving late and getting back to bed late.

Ya, right now, I could be swayed into either of Predator's answer or Sams....

Re: wind tonight.... bucks get back to bed late ?
IMO sam and predator are both right, in high winds 30+ Iv'e seen deer both hold tight to there beds and Iv'e seen them relocate to an area that puts the wind in there best favor. I think the difference would be if there is somewhere for them to relocate too or not. If there is some sort of steep ridge or vally or lowland for them to get out of the wind then theres a good chance thats where they will be. Iv'e watched some real dandy's sneak out of there beds to head for these spots.

I agree with Foltzy... But tend to think more hold tight than move early. It seems to me they move early in more open areas, but in thicker wooded areas they hold tight more often.
I do think in most cases, tomorrow morning would be a good sit.

Re: wind tonight.... bucks get back to bed late ?
Not sure if this will help but I have generally seen less deer activity when it is very wind outside so I would tend to think they might stay in their bed longer and get back to their beds later but I can't say for sure. Hopefully someone else has a solid answer, good questions dreaming.

From my experience, its not that they bed later, they just tend to stay in their staging area a lot later. Basically all of the bucks advantage go out the door except his nose in high winds and even that his hindered. Its not safe for them to move around in daylight unless like previously mentioned that there is an open area where they can use their vision.
